The seniors quiz night at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall continues this week. These senior citizens show that they are still alert with functioning long term memories – it was truly a blessed occasion as we listened to memories from days past – I think it is safe to say that we drank it up and hungered for more – “Memory is a way of holding onto the thing you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose. The Wonder Years.” Jessica McMahan – May the heavenly Father continue to bless all our seniors as they do what they can to help us understand the past and gain respect for our culture.

Weather around Westport, CT and all of Fairfield county
2010 is going out with a roar leaving us with snow storms and blizzards – the entire Tri-State is covered with the white fluffy stuff making travel by road, rail and air virtually impossible – in some respects it has brought it to a standstill
As reported in Westportnow.com:
More Than 23,000 Statewide Without Power
With more than 23,000 state residents without power due to the worst blizzard in recent history, Gov. M. Jodi Rell has directed that the state’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Hartford remain open today to address the ongoing needs of cities and towns.
“We continue to implore the public to not venture out on the roads unless it is absolutely necessary,” Rell said.
“The high winds continue to blow snow onto freshly plowed roads, making the clean up a lengthy process. We also want to enable state utilities crews to be able to respond as quickly as possible to the thousands of residents across the state who are without power.”
More than 21,000 Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) customers and more than 2,200 United Illuminating Company (UI) customers are reported to be out of power today.
Mortgage update
The official magazine of the National Association of Realtors reported that ”
Mortgage Purchase Applications Hit 6-Month High
Mortgage applications to purchase homes increased 14.4 percent last week on an adjusted basis compared to the previous week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association weekly survey.
The unadjusted Purchase Index increased 9.6 percent compared with the previous week and was down 7.4 percent compared to the same week a year ago.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, this is the highest Purchase Index recorded since the week ending May 7, 2010 in the middle of the tax-rebate push.
“The increase in purchase applications last week aligns with other incoming data suggesting that consumers are feeling somewhat more confident with their financial situation,” said Michael Fratantoni, the association’s vice president of research and economics.
“The level of purchase applications on a seasonally adjusted basis is now at its highest level since the expiration of the homebuyer tax credit,” Fratantoni concluded.
Interest rates were mixed, with 30-year fixed-rate mortgages rising to 4.50 percent from 4.46 percent and 15-year fixed-rate mortgages decreasing to 3.83 percent from 3.87 percent.
